1 Sand Shark Drive
Hilton Head Island, SC 29928
United States
From 1526, "Santa Elena" (English derivation "Saint Helena") stands with "La Florida" as America's oldest European place name in continuous use. Beaufort County's 500th Anniversary predates better- known Mayflower, Jamestown, Lost Colony, and Saint Augustine chapters of American history. Join the Santa Elena Foundation, Beaufort County Historical Society, and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute for a special program to celebrate this anniversary.
Presentations include "Beaufort Before Britain - The Naming of Santa Elena", "The Story of Santa Elena - First North American Capital", Plans for Future Santa Elena Exhibit at the Coastal Discovery Museum, and a Town of Hilton Head Island Proclamation.
