  • WTOC meteorologist Jamie Ertle has been named “Best TV Personality” in the 2023 Official Community’s Choice Awards, Best of the Coastal Empire. She’s been with WTOC since 2005.

  • Jordan Matthis joined the Hilton Head Island-Bluffton Chamber of Commerce as a Visual Content Coordinator. She was previously an intern for Local Life Magazine, and a graduate of Western Kentucky University.

  • Edward “Teddy” Thompson has graduated from the ApprenticeshipSC Program. In 2021, Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort hosted him as the first youth culinary apprentice within the Technical College of the Lowcountry. He has also completed his education at Hilton Head High School and will be attending Johnson & Wales University this fall to continue his culinary studies.

  • Five classroom teachers have been named as finalists for Beaufort County’s 2023-24 District Teacher of the Year: April Bryant, fifth-grade teacher at Coosa Elementary School; Amanda Freeman, science lab teacher at Mossy Oaks Elementary School; Josh Ferguson, health science teacher at Whale Branch Early College High School; James King, social studies teacher at May River High School; and Karen Tooman, math teacher at Battery Creek High School. The Teacher of the Year will be announced this fall.
